Razer Blackwidow Elite Review – Amazing Keyboard for League of Legends

Razer is perhaps the only manufacturer that is solely devoted to producing top-of-the-line products for gamers only. Most of the Razer products that I have used have till this point been performing outstandingly.

Introducing the Razer Blackwidow Elite Review, a keyboard mode for professional competitive gamers in mind. The keyboard comes with tons of convenient features that you will need during your League of Legends gameplay all while boasting a sleek design with aesthetic looks.

Razer Blackwidow Elite Review

Featuring a full-size keyboard layout, the Razer Blackwidow Elite is quite hefty weighing in at 1422 g. Hence, I would say it is better meant for home gaming setups. I really would not recommend getting this keyboard if you stay out of your house most of the time.

Just like any other Razer product, the build quality of the BlackWidow Elite is excellent. The body and the chassis all feel premium with a nice finish. The keyboard features a full metal front while the rest of the chassis is made from good quality plastic.

While the keycaps could have been better, they are made from some type of ABS plastic that does not feel cheap at all, which is the case with budget keyboards. Make sure you keep your keys clean because they can be quite the fingerprint magnet.

The keyboard comes with a 2 m braided cable and a detachable wrist rest made of plush foam for maximum comfort while gaming. A detachable cable would have been a good extra touch over the fixed one but I really can not complain considering all the other features.

Ergonomics and Durability

In terms of durability, the keyboard felt quite sturdy with minimal flexing. The combination of metal and plastic for the chassis adds to the durability of the product.

For extra comfort, the BlackWidow Elite even comes with a magnetic detachable wrist rest made of leatherette. To the touch, the palm rest feels plush and it does the job as I did expect. The wrist rest was a bit loose with the model that I got.

The underside of the keyboard chassis has rubber feet to keep it in place while gaming and the two-step incline adjustment makes it easy to angle the keyboard in any way you prefer.

The BlackWindow Elite even has a USB passthrough thereby letting you connect other USB peripherals like your gaming mouse. Besides the USB passthrough, you also get a 3.5 mm jack on the front edge to connect your pair of gaming headphones or speakers.

Since every gamer has a certain preference when it comes to mechanical switches, Razer provides multiple switch options. The Blackwidow Elite comes with Razer mechanical keyboard switches made by the manufacturer itself.

Offering choices among Razer Orange, Yellow and Green switches, the switches tend to perform better than my expectations. The orange switches are silent and tactile, the green is tactile and clicky while the yellow are linear switches with no feedback.

Being a gamer myself, the yellow linear switches are my personal favorite here. The actuation of the mechanical switches is a bit different than the MX Cherry ones but still not bad. Speaking of responsiveness, it felt pretty good too.

Multimedia & Macro

When it comes to multimedia keys and macro capabilities I would choose the Razer Blackwidow Elite over the Logitech G Pro any day. The keyboard comes equipped with 3 dedicated buttons and a multi-function dial set as the default volume controller on the top right of the chassis.

While the default functions of the buttons include previous, next, and play/pause, they can easily be customized to your liking through the Razer Synapse 3 software. The big dial controls the music volume by default which can also be changed through the software.

Again, the absence of separate macro keys was a disappointment but the Razer HyperShift feature allows you to turn any key on the keyboard into a macro function or assign a secondary function to it.

The HyperShift feature is a great tool in my opinion. I would recommend assigning the macros to the function keys, that way you have an entire row of keys to act as your macro keys.

RGB Lighting

Just like any other Razer gaming product, the Blackwidow Elite is also powered by the Razer Chroma RGB lighting system. Supporting a plethora of effects, color combinations, and patterns, the RGB lighting brings the best out of your gaming setup.

The lighting is bright enough to be visible during daylight or in any other brightly lit room. While the lighting effects and capabilities are cool, the entire thing is not that flashy. You also have a dedicated button to turn the backlights off when it is unnecessary.

The RGB illumination of the Huntsman Elite can be controlled using the Razer’s Synapse software included with the keyboard and is also available on their webpage.

All in all, a solid choice if customizations and looks are your main priority. I would recommend and include the Razer Huntsman Elite in the list of the Best Keyboard for LoL.
