Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q1A 4k Review (High-End)

Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q1A Review - Best Gaming Monitor for League of Legends

When it comes to experiencing the best a gaming setup can offer, there is nothing that can beat a 4k gaming monitor. The ASUS TUF Gaming VG289Q1A offers just that with its 4K resolution and crisp gaming performance.

With the launch of the new generation of graphics cards, 4k gaming is no longer a dream. The TUF Gaming VG289Q1A comes equipped with a 28-inch wide IPS panel supporting resolutions of up to 3840 x 2160 pixels for picture-perfect gameplay. When it comes to picture quality, ASUS never fails to impress me since compared to this, other 4k gaming monitors that I have used could never deliver what they promised.

Whereas, the VG289Q1A just blew my mind with its pixel-perfect quality and features.

The monitor even supports HDR 10 which I was quite amazed to find. During gameplay, the high dynamic range colors managed to fulfill my expectations with vibrant colors and exceptional brightness levels. Equipped with support for both G-Sync and FreeSync for Nvidia and AMD graphics cards respectively, you can say goodbye to those annoying screen tearing and glitches during transitions and cutscenes.

One specific thing I really liked about the monitor was the Shadow Boost feature which claims to brighten dark areas whether it be in games or movies without overexposing other parts unnecessarily since I hate enemies hiding and shooting me from corners. For all the fellow readers out there with eye strains, the Ultra-Low Blue Light technology of the Asus TUF VG289Q1A has got you covered. Moreover, the monitor is certified to deliver flicker-free and low blue light content to prevent much damage to the eyes.

Convenience is really important when it comes to a gaming system and thus ASUS did not forget to add a plethora of output connections and include swivel and tilt to allow you to angle the monitor in any way you like. The I/O panel provides a pair of HDMI v2.0 connections along with a single DisplayPort v1.2 and an earphone jack. Basically, the TUF Gaming VG289Q1A pretty much includes all the things you will ever need.

Another thing that is special about the Asus TUF Gaming VG289Q1A is the superior build quality over its competitors. The TUF product line is solely based on manufacturing gaming hardware that is built to last which I highly appreciate. Unfortunately, the only downside to the monitor is that you can only experience up to 60 Hz refresh rates which is still a good trade for a high-quality 4k experience but overall, the TUF monitor is without a doubt the Best League of Legends Monitor at this price.

Samsung 27″ G30A Odyssey 144Hz Review (Readers also like)

Samsung 27 G30A Full HD Odyssey 144Hz Review - Best League of Legends Monitor

Samsung has always stayed on the top with quality products with an outstanding price to performance ratio. The Samsung G30A Odyssey Gaming Monitor is no exception with its crystal-clear picture quality and amazing lag-free gaming performance. While the G30A Odyssey is available in 2 different size options, I will be talking about the 27-inch model. For starters, just as I mentioned, the monitor comes with a wide 27-inch VA panel with Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution.

To be honest, the VA panel delivers quite good viewing angles even though I would have preferred an IPS panel. The one feature in this monitor that steals the show is the 144 Hz refresh rate capabilities along with a 1 ms response time. Anyone with a higher refresh rate monitor knows that a 144 Hz monitor is a substantial upgrade over a 60 Hz one. The G30A Odessey blew my mind with its fluid and buttery smooth lag-free gameplay, again thanks to that higher refresh rate.

The 1ms response time manages to deliver blazing-fast accuracy so that your game can keep up with your reflexes. The G30 odyssey also offers swivel, tilt, pivot, and height adjustments which are quite nice to have if you plan to use the monitor in a place with multiple viewing angles. If you really are a League Of legends player, then you most certainly know that the 1ms response time and 144Hz Refresh rate will give you a big competitive advantage over your opponents.

The Eye-saver mode and the flicker-free technology ensure that you can game on the G30A without any eye strain and other complications.

To eliminate screen tearing, the monitor also features AMD FreeSync Premium which is a step above the normal version so that you can enjoy lag-free gameplay and cutscenes.

Featuring two connectivity ports including a single HDMI 1.4 port and  DisplayPort 1.2, all you need to do is hook your gaming PC with this beast using a DisplayPort or HDMI cable. In terms of sheer performance, I would definitely prefer The G30A over the next monitor that I am going to review but as for the display, I would want a bit more.

  • Houses a 27-inch VA panel with Full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution.
  • Features 144 Hz Variable Refresh Rate and ultra-fast 1ms Response time.
  • Comes with AMD FreeSync Premium support to eliminate screen tearing.
  • Features a stylish 3-sided Borderless design with minimal bezels.

Alienware AW2720HF 27″ Review (Author’s Choice)

ALIENWARE AW2720HF 27" Review - Best Monitor for League of Legends (LoL)

Over the past few years, Alienware, Dell’s subsidiary gaming brand, has gained quite a substantial amount of popularity. Delivering top-notch quality along with stunning visuals, Alienware Gaming monitors have certainly lived up to the hype and expectations.

The Alienware AW2720HF Gaming monitor comes in 3 variants with 2 different screen size options including a 27-inch panel and a 38-inch panel. However, for this review, I will be talking about the former which has a smaller panel. The first thing that you will notice about this monitor is its rated 240 Hz refresh rate capability. The super high refresh rate is one of this monitor’s main selling points since it ups the ante by switching from the traditional 144 Hz refresh rate panel to a 240 Hz one.

Such a high refresh rate means a butter-like, fluid, and completely lag-free gaming experience which is a must for competitive League Of legends plays. To put the cherry on top, the monitor also features both Nvidia G-sync/G-Sync Ultimate and AMD Free-Sync. While the G-Sync and FreeSync capabilities take care of the screen tears and glitches, the 1 ms response time eliminates blurs and delayed actions. Moreover, the IPS panel manages to reproduce color pretty well along with nice viewing angles.

To get the most out of your gameplay, the IPS panel comes in either Full HD configuration or QHD. While I am using the QHD variant you can opt for the Full HD version if you are short on budget. As far as connectivity goes, the ALIENWARE AW2720HF is well equipped with a plethora of ports including 4x USB 3.1 Gen 1, 2x HDMI, and 1x DisplayPort. For all the RGB lovers out there, the monitor stand also comes with RGB lighting for a sick-looking setup.

You can try out different combinations of RGB custom lighting with the AlienFX software utility to match your gaming keyboard and gaming mouse to end up with a gorgeous and unique-looking gaming station. Speaking from a performance standpoint, the Alienware AW2720HF is pretty much unbeatable at this price point and I would definitely recommend it as the Best League of Legends Gaming Monitor that money can buy.

  • Available in QHD, Full HD, and 27-inch,38-inch, and 38-inch curved variants.
  • Equipped with an IPS panel with a 240 Hz refresh rate for fluid gameplay.
  • Comes with both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync support.
  • Features a super-fast 1 ms response time for next-level gaming.

AOC C27G2Z 27″ Curved Review

AOC C27G2Z 27" Curved Review - Best League of Legends Gaming Monitor

If you want to step up your overall viewing experience from a gaming standpoint then there is no better upgrade than a curved monitor instead of a traditional flat one. Not only does it compliment your gaming setup but also offers more immersive visuals. At first glance, the AOC C27G2Z seems like the perfect monitor for gamers looking for better viewing angles and nuance to add to their gaming setup and trust me, the monitor will not disappoint. At least for me, this one seems like a good bang for the buck.

To start off, the AOC C27G2Z houses a 27-inch curved VA panel with a 1500R curvature. The panel supports up to Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels which in my opinion is the sweet spot for a majority of gamers. The VA panels offer a great contrast ratio but fall short in terms of viewing angles but nonetheless, the next feature makes up for the lack of an IPS panel. This monitor too just like the previous one comes with a refresh rate of 240 Hz.

The 240 Hz panel again is the selling point of this monitor here but what amazes me the most is that the AOC C27G2Z manages to have a response time of 0.5 ms which is half of all the other monitors we have reviewed. Unfortunately, the 0.5 ms is not that noticeable when compared to a monitor with a 1 ms response time, but it is still nice to have for competitive plays to eliminate ghosting and latency issues.

The monitor also comes with 6 game modes to enable gamers to toggle between different settings preset for different game genres. The addition of AOC Game Color And Shadow Control options allows for finer color controls. The anti-glare feature of the panel makes sure that you do not suffer from unnecessary reflections in brightly lit environments.

Moving on the back of the monitor, I found the AOC C27G2Z equipped with just enough ports and connections. The I/O panel offers a single DisplayPort 1.2 connection and a pair of HDMI 2.0 connections. Feature-wise, the monitor has everything a gamer can ask for and as for the performance, I really did like it for a mid-range option. In general, not a bad choice to be your next top Gaming Monitor for League of Legends

  • Houses a 27-inch curved VA panel supporting up to Full HD 1080p resolution.
  • Comes with AMD FreeSync Premium support for smoother gameplay.
  • Features super-low latency of 0.5 ms and 240 Hz variable refresh rate.
  • Boasts a sleek, stylish, and frameless design.
  • Allows easy adjustments including pivot, swivel, height & tilt.

MSI Optix G241VC Review (Best Under Budget)MSI Optix G241VC Review - Best Monitor for LoL under Budget

The final spot in the list belongs to the Optix G241VC Gaming Monitor from MSI. With increasing prices, building a gaming PC can be costly. Fortunately, MSI with its Optix G241VC provides a very budget-friendly alternative for all the budget gamers out there. Even at this low price point, the Optix G241VC does not cut corners and provides almost exceptional features and performance capabilities found in higher-end gaming monitors.

The sleek-looking gaming monitor comes with a small but great-looking 23.6-inch panel capable of displaying sharp images at a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. As far as my experience with it goes, the color reproduction is up to the mark. The Samsung curved panel with a 1800R curvature was an astonishing feature that I did not expect on a device so budget-oriented. Paired with a 178 degrees wide viewing angle, the Optix G241VC stands out with awesome-looking details while gaming.

Equipped and optimized with AMD’s FreeSync technology you can be sure that you do not experience random screen tears and glitches thus allowing you to not take your focus off your gameplay. The monitor also features a Night Vision option that basically brightens darker parts of the environment with heavy shadows during gameplay for a competitive advantage over your opponents.

A mid-tier and high-end gaming monitor can offer up to 240 Hz refresh rate capabilities and this is where the part where the Optix G241VC fails to impress me with its 75 Hz refresh rate. Nonetheless, still an improvement over a 60 Hz panel. MSI claims to use a Less Blue Light design that not only reduces the amount of blue light that is emitted from the screen of the monitor but also reduces eye strain for long hours of gaming.

In terms of connectivity, the MSI Optix G241VC does not offer much but just the necessary ports and stuff. The I/O port includes a single HDMI 1.4 port and a VGA port to connect a gaming laptop and graphics cards with a VGA connection. Ultimately, the monitor pretty much successfully delivers what it promises without fail. The only thing that I wished it has was a higher refresh rate but considering the price it definitely earns its spot for the cheapest Gaming Monitor for League of Legends.

  • Features a 23.6-inch Samsung curved panel with a 75 Hz refresh rate.
  • Equipped with AMD’s FreeSync Technology for eliminating screen tears.
  • Supports up to Full HD 1080p  resolution with 1 ms response time.
  • Wider color gamut with an excellent 178-degree viewing angle.

Things to look for when Buying a Monitor for League of Legends

Things to Consider when Buying a Gaming Monitor for League of Legends (LoL)

Things to look for before you buy Best Gaming Monitor for League of Legends –

Screen Size

Whether you buy a TV or a new gaming monitor for your sick gaming setup, the first thing that you should consider is the screen size. Anything between 24-inches and 35-inches is the sweet spot. Since there are tons of monitors available in the market with various screen sizes ranging from 20 to almost 50-inches, you should not have a bit of trouble finding one that is fit for you.

The first thing you should think of while determining the screen size is the size of your PC desk and the room where the setup is placed. If you have a smaller desk then a 32-inch gaming monitor or something like that won’t be that hard to fit. Apart from the screen size, pixel density is also something that highly impacts how the overall display of your monitor looks. Great size with a low pixel density means you get lower quality images while a decent size and a good pixel density is the better pair up.

A pixel density of anywhere between 100 PPI  to 140 PPI should be good to go

Ever heard of the term ‘Aspect Ratio’? It is the ratio of the length of your monitor to its width. While most gaming monitor screens come with a 16:9 aspect ratio, the newer ones with wider panels called ‘ultra-wide’ panels have more to offer. Ultra-wide monitors are the new deal, offering a much more immersive gaming experience with its higher aspect ratio of 32:9 and 21:9. Although they look good they are not my choice for competitive games like League Of Legends.

Type Of Panel

The image quality and viewing angles are what define a gaming monitor. The type of panel your monitor will have largely determines the overall display capabilities, color, and image reproduction.

All gaming monitors is not some, are equipped with generally three types of panels that you can choose from:

TN Panel

If great visuals are not what you are going for and competitive advantage is your main thing, getting a gaming monitor with a TN panel is your safest bet. Personally speaking, TN panels are my thing since I play competitive games a lot.

Twisted Nematic panels are the best in class compared to others when it comes to the fastest response times and highest refresh rates. If you ever see a 240 Hz or 360 Hz refresh rate monitor, chances are it boasts a TN panel. In terms of color accuracy and viewing angles, TN panels are definitely not the way to go.

IPS Panel

Monitors with in-plane switching panels are revered by gamers due to their wide viewing angles and performance in terms of color reproduction. Also, IPS panels have much to offer with their reasonable refresh rates and response times. While the response times and refresh rate on an IPS panel are slower than TN panels, IPS panel gaming monitors beat all the other ones when it comes to accurate color reproduction.

VA Panel

IPS and TN panels both have their goods and bad. While on the other hand, the VA panel manages to offer a much more balanced performance both in terms of sheer display quality and gaming performance. Featuring respectable response time and refresh rate, wider viewing angles compared to TN panels, Vertical Alignment panels serve as great all-rounders and that is why they have recently gained a lot of popularity.

To be simple, you can think of screen resolution as the sharpness with which a monitor screen displays images on it. The higher the resolution on the monitor the sharper and crispier are the images.

Most mid-range gaming monitors come at a Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels or QHD (2K) resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. QHD and FHD monitors are mostly the preferred resolution for most gamers since 4K can be quite demanding. Before you fixate your eyes on a monitor with high resolution make sure you have a powerful enough graphics card to support it. Say you have an RTX 2060 or a GTX 1080 Ti then an FHD monitor should pair up nicely with that.

If you have got the money and the resources then you can consider going for a 4K monitor or a 4K Ultra-wide and trust me when I say 4K gaming is purely immersive especially with titles like League of Legends. Also, make sure that the size of your monitor is compatible with your resolutions. For example, a 32-inch monitor with FHD resolution would look a bit blurry and a 4K resolution on a tiny 26-inch monitor would look very murky and unappealing.

Refresh Rate

Here comes the part where the actual performance of the monitor can win you games. Yes, I am talking about refresh rates. Without a shadow of doubt always go for a gaming monitor with a higher refresh rate just to be safe.

Refresh rate basically determines the number of times an image is updated in a second on the monitor screen. Measured in hertz, 60 Hz monitors were good in like 2010 which were capable of refreshing an image about 60 times per second. Generally, a higher refresh rate monitor means that your eyes receive more information each second thus giving you the competitive advantage over your opponents. If you really want to experience fluid-like buttery smooth gameplay then go for a 144 Hz monitor.

A 144 Hz or a 165 Hz monitor is a significant upgrade over a 60 Hz one. Although 240 Hz and 360 Hz monitors are available I would not recommend spending more than you need since anything above 165 Hz is hardly noticeable. Another reason monitors with refresh rates above 165 Hz are unnecessary is that the frame rate of your game needs to match the refresh rate of the monitor to deliver the best gaming experience. Sadly, not all gamers can afford a super high-end GPU.

Response Time

As a gamer, it is not enough to just have god-like reflexes and hand-eye coordination. You will also require a gaming monitor to keep up with your mouse movements and super-fast reaction time and this is where response time plays its part.Response time is not much big of a deal unless when it comes to gaming. In short. Response time of a monitor is the time the pixels need to change their color from one to another. Thus, the shorter the response time the better.

Most low-end gaming monitors feature a response time of 4 ms which is somewhat acceptable but anything less than 4 ms is much better. Most mid-tier and high-end gaming monitors will come with a 1 ms or even 0.5 ms response time. Now, what you choose is completely up to you but in my opinion, 1 ms is the best bet considering how fast-paced League of Legends is as a game. Otherwise, you might end up facing ghosting issues and blurs.

FreeSync & G-Sync

Even with a low enough response time, you might come to face some glitches and other ghosting issues. Ever noticed those annoying screen tears that occur during gameplay. Yup, that is accused due to the fact the GPU can not keep up with the refresh rate.To eliminate such issues make sure the monitor that you choose is equipped with technologies and features like AMD’s FreeSync and Nvidia’s G-Sync. They are designed to provide a lag-free and smooth gaming experience.

Just make sure that is your gaming rig boasts an AMD GPU, you opt for a monitor with AMD Freesync and for an Nvidia GPU-based rig go for a monitor with Nvidia’s G-Sync Technology. All you need to do is hook up your GPU to your new gaming monitor with a DisplayPort cable and you are good to go. Since Nvidia’s G-Sync is hardware-based, it tends to outperform its AMD counterpart with marginally fewer performance hits.

Curved or Flat

Since the time curved display monitors were introduced, there has always been a debate whether flat monitors were the way to go or the former one. Ultimately it is up to you to choose but here is a short overview.

Flat gaming monitors have always been the default choice for most gamers over the ages and have never disappointed anyone no matter what the genre of the game is. With the rise of curved monitors, things have changed a bit. Curved monitors not only offer a more immersive gaming experience but also feel more natural since they follow our eye’s natural depth of field. Nonetheless, I highly recommend you check out both types of monitors before you make up your mind.

Curved monitors are not everyone’s cup of tea but if you are willing to buy one then check out the curvature that fits you. A curved display with a 1000 R to 1800 R is completely acceptable. A lower number equals a greater curve. Most curved displays you will find will have a 21:9 ratio to cover more field of view, but you can definitely find a few 16:9 ratio curved monitors. Although, I would prefer a 21:9 one for a more intense and engaging experience.

The price is something that you definitely need to consider before you make a purchase and it is largely dependent on your budget and your needs. Anything that falls under the mid-tier category is the best option for any gamer. A curved display will always cost more than a flat one. So, if you are on a budget then I would recommend giving up on the curved panel and investing in a product with better performance capabilities like a higher refresh rate or response time.

Conclusion – Which one is the Best Monitor for LoL?

I hope by reading this article you fellow readers at least got a basic idea of what to look for while buying your gaming monitor for League of Legends. Unlike your gaming PC, keyboard, and mouse, the monitor might not be the most fundamental part of a gaming rig but it is definitely one of the things to not overlook.

The bottom line is, the next gaming monitor that you wish to purchase for League Of Legends is solely dependent on what features you really need or want. In my opinion, the Alienware AW2720HF is exceptionally good considering the price point. Do not go for unnecessary features and accessories, the only thing that you need to factor in is the actual gaming performance and the mandatory specs. Purchasing a good gaming monitor is a fantastic investment if you choose the right thing.
